How type effectiveness works
Every attack has a type, and every Pokémon has one or two types. The attacking type is compared against the defender’s type(s) to give a damage multiplier: ×2 (super effective), ×1 (neutral), ×½ (not very effective) or ×0 (no effect).
For dual-type Pokémon the two multipliers are multiplied together. That is how you reach ×4 (double weakness — e.g. a Grass/Ground Pokémon against Ice) or ×¼ (double resistance), and how an immunity on either type wins out to ×0 regardless of the other.
