How natures work
The ±10% rule
Each nature boosts one of Attack, Defense, Sp. Atk, Sp. Def or Speed by 10% and cuts another by 10%. HP is never affected. The effect applies to the final stat at every level.
Stat → flavor
- Attack→Spicy
- Defense→Sour
- Sp. Atk→Dry
- Sp. Def→Bitter
- Speed→Sweet
The 5 neutral natures
These raise and lower the same stat, so they cancel out — no effect on any stat.
The exact stat formula
Final stat = floor( (2 × Base + IV + floor(EV ÷ 4)) × Level ÷ 100 + 5 ) × nature, where nature = 1.1 for the boosted stat, 0.9 for the lowered stat, 1.0 otherwise. HP uses a different formula and is never affected by nature.

Nature questions
Can a Pokémon's nature be changed?
The nature itself is fixed, but from Sword/Shield onward, Mints (e.g. Adamant Mint) override the stat effect without changing the nature's name.
Does nature affect HP?
No. Nature only touches Attack, Defense, Sp. Atk, Sp. Def and Speed — HP is never raised or lowered.
How do you pass down a nature when breeding?
Give a parent an Everstone: the offspring then inherits that parent's nature 100% of the time.
