Is Exeggutor Good?

No, Exeggutor is generally poor in competitive PvP, sitting at the bottom in the ZU tier for Scarlet and Violet. • Crippled by seven type weaknesses, including a fatal 4x weakness to Bug.
• Extremely reliant on specific weather (Sun) or field conditions (Trick Room) to function.
• Base Speed is far too low to sweep independently outside of sun.

Exeggutor currently languishes in the ZU tier in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, holding a marginal 1.3% usage rate. This rock-bottom placement directly reflects the harsh reality of modern competitive Pokémon: poor defensive typings are ruthlessly punished.

Its role is strictly relegated to niche offensive setups. You either play it as a Chlorophyll sun sweeper or a Trick Room setter. It cannot function as a standalone wallbreaker because its base Speed leaves it vulnerable to almost every offensive threat in the metagame.

While its Special Attack allows it to punch holes in unprepared teams, getting Exeggutor onto the field safely is a massive challenge. It requires meticulous pivot support and cannot switch into neutral attacks safely due to its average bulk and numerous weaknesses.

The Sun Sweeper (Chlorophyll)

This is Exeggutor's most viable offensive set in ZU. By utilizing Chlorophyll, it patches up its abysmal Speed stat under harsh sunlight.

Energy Ball and Psyshock serve as mandatory STAB options, allowing it to hit both physical and special defensive walls. Sludge Bomb provides essential coverage against opposing Grass-types. Choice Specs maximizes immediate wallbreaking power, while Life Orb allows flexibility to switch moves.

The Harvest Stall Setup

For a slower, bulkier approach, the Harvest ability offers a frustratingly resilient win condition if the opponent lacks super-effective coverage or item removal.

Calm Mind boosts its already high Special Attack and Special Defense. Combining Synthesis with a recurring Sitrus Berry makes Exeggutor incredibly difficult to chip down. Expanding Force hits exceptionally hard after a single Calm Mind boost.

The Trick Room Setter

If sun is not an option, Exeggutor can flip the speed tiers entirely.

The Colbur Berry is strictly required here to survive a stray Knock Off or Dark-type attack while setting up Trick Room. Once Trick Room is active, Exeggutor can fire off powerful STAB attacks before the opponent can react.

Exeggutor cannot operate in a vacuum. It relies heavily on specific teammates to cover its massive defensive liabilities. Skuntank is arguably its best partner in the ZU tier. Skuntank easily absorbs the Bug, Poison, and Dark-type attacks that threaten Exeggutor, while Exeggutor handles the Ground-types that threaten Skuntank.

On sun teams, Charizard provides excellent synergy, benefiting from the same weather conditions while threatening the Bug and Steel types that wall Exeggutor. If running the Trick Room set, Glastrier is an incredible teammate, abusing the twisted dimensions to sweep with its massive Attack stat.

Defensively, Naclstack offers a sturdy backbone and hazard support, wearing down the opposing team to put them in range of Exeggutor's Energy Ball. Jolteon serves as a high-speed pivot, using Volt Switch to bring Exeggutor onto the field safely against slow, bulky Water or Ground types.

Exeggutor's Grass/Psychic typing is a defensive nightmare. It carries seven type weaknesses: Bug, Dark, Fire, Flying, Ghost, Ice, and Poison. The 4x weakness to Bug is a death sentence in any format where U-turn is a common pivoting move.

Any Pokémon carrying a Choice Scarf and U-turn will instantly force Exeggutor out or outright KO it. Furthermore, Dark-type attackers completely shut down its Harvest sets. A single Knock Off not only deals super-effective damage but permanently removes the Sitrus Berry or Colbur Berry, rendering the Harvest ability entirely useless.

Its reliance on abilities and items makes it highly predictable. If the sun runs out or Trick Room expires, Exeggutor becomes dead weight. It simply lacks the defensive profile to survive a hit from modern, power-crept attackers.

Do not use Exeggutor if your team lacks dedicated speed control (Sun or Trick Room). Never slot it into a team hoping it can act as a standard defensive pivot; it will faint rapidly. Avoid picking it if you are playing in higher tiers (OU, UU, or RU) where U-turn usage is ubiquitous.

If you need a reliable Grass/Psychic type, Celebi (when available in the format) is vastly superior due to its better stat distribution and Natural Cure ability. If you specifically need a Chlorophyll sun sweeper in lower tiers, Victreebel or Shiftry often provide better mixed attacking options or utility.

For casual playthroughs in Scarlet and Violet, Exeggutor is perfectly fine. We will have to wait for Pokémon Legends: Z-A (2025) to see if new mechanics or regional variants revitalize its competitive standing, but currently, the Kantonian form is strictly a bottom-tier pick.
