Entei absolutely dominates this direct duel. The Fire typing naturally resists Celebi's Grass-type STAB attacks, immediately putting the time travel Pokémon on the back foot. Furthermore, Celebi's Psychic typing provides zero defensive advantage against Entei's standard coverage.

Entei outpaces Celebi offensively. A Choice Band Crunch or Sacred Fire will easily OHKO or severely dent Celebi before it can even attempt to set up a substitute or use Recover. There is no realistic scenario where a standard Celebi wins a straight 1v1 without prior setup or massive chip damage already applied to Entei.

Entei currently holds a solid position in the SV RU tier with a notable 23.9% usage rate. Its success comes from a phenomenal offensive movepool and the ability to break through unprepared defensive cores. Sacred Fire is the absolute cornerstone of Entei's kit. The terrifying 50% burn chance deters physical walls from switching in safely, allowing Entei to dictate the pace of the match.

When paired with Heavy-Duty Boots to ignore entry hazards, Entei becomes a persistent and recurring threat. Extreme Speed provides crucial priority, allowing Entei to pick off weakened sweepers and completely ignore speed boosts from the opponent. Coverage moves like Stone Edge, Crunch, and Stomping Tantrum ensure that almost nothing resists its assaults completely.

Entei thrives alongside partners that cover its defensive gaps. Noivern and Mimikyu provide excellent pivoting and immunities. Kleavor sets up stealth rocks to punish Entei's switch-ins, while Krookodile and Chesnaught handle the Rock and Water types that threaten it. Celebi historically struggles against the exact tools Entei possesses, making it a poor choice in a meta defined by heavy offensive pressure.

Despite its raw power, Entei is not unstoppable. Specific defensive walls and faster offensive threats can completely shut down its momentum if the player is not careful. Bulky Water and Rock types are Entei's worst nightmare. Suicune and Slowbro can easily absorb a Sacred Fire, shrug off the burn thanks to their typing or natural bulk, and threaten back with super-effective STAB moves.

Rhyperior and Diancie completely wall Entei's standard STAB options. Unless Entei predicts perfectly with Iron Head or Trailblaze on the switch, these Rock-types will force it out immediately. Offensive checks like Terrakion and Maushold can also punish Entei if it locks itself into the wrong move with a Choice Band.

Terrakion outspeeds and threatens an OHKO, while Maushold can overwhelm Entei with multi-hit attacks if Entei's health has been chipped down. However, while Entei fears these specific bulky counters, Celebi faces a completely different and more severe set of problems. Celebi is entirely walled by Steel and Bug types, gets trapped easily, and is obliterated by common pivot moves, making Entei's counters feel far more manageable by comparison.

As we look toward Pokémon Legends: Z-A in 2025, the dynamic between these two could shift depending on the returning mechanics. However, the core type matchup will always heavily favor Entei.
