As a special attacker, Munkidori possesses the speed to outrun a significant portion of the unboosted metagame. It primarily functions as a revenge killer or a hit-and-run attacker.

However, it cannot take a physical hit. Its physical bulk is practically non-existent, meaning it relies entirely on its speed tier and positioning to survive. You must play it proactively, predicting switches rather than reacting to attacks.

The most consistent way to play Munkidori in NU involves a Choice Scarf or Choice Specs.

A Choice Scarf set maximizes its revenge-killing potential, outspeeding setup sweepers. For this set, Psychic or Psyshock serves as the primary STAB.

Sludge Bomb or Sludge Wave provides secondary STAB, hitting Fairy and Grass types hard.

Munkidori requires teammates that can absorb the physical hits it absolutely cannot survive. Bulky Water-types and Ground-types are ideal partners.

Swampert is arguably its best teammate in the NU tier. Swampert easily takes the Rock, Ground, and physical attacks aimed at Munkidori.

Incineroar and Flygon also form excellent pivoting cores with Munkidori. A U-turn from Munkidori into an Incineroar Intimidate drop creates a frustrating cycle for physical attackers.

Flygon provides an essential Ground immunity and secondary momentum with its own U-turn.

Steel-types are completely immune to its Poison STAB and the Toxic Chain ability. Copperajah and Bronzong completely wall standard Munkidori sets.

They absorb Psychic and Sludge Bomb with ease and threaten massive physical damage in return. If you miss Focus Blast, Munkidori is dead.

Klefki is another massive roadblock. It resists Psychic, is immune to Poison, and can safely set up Spikes or paralyze Munkidori.

• Chandelure: Resists Poison, takes neutral from Psychic, and threatens an OHKO with Ghost STAB.
• Overqwil: Absorbs Poison, resists Psychic, and retaliates with Dark STAB.
• Flygon: Faster Choice Scarf variants easily revenge kill it before it can act.

Furthermore, Munkidori's physical bulk is practically non-existent. It folds to almost any strong neutral physical attack, demanding perfect positioning.

Avoid drafting Munkidori if your team already struggles against bulky Steel-types or lacks reliable physical walls.

Munkidori offers zero defensive utility. Do not use Munkidori if you need a reliable, standalone wallbreaker.

Its Special Attack is good, but without Choice Specs or a Nasty Plot boost, it fails to OHKO dedicated special walls.

Relying on Focus Blast for coverage will eventually cost you matches due to its low accuracy.

If you need a Psychic-type that can actually take a hit and provide utility, look elsewhere. Bronzong offers far superior bulk and defensive utility for your team.

Finally, never run the Frisk ability. It is completely useless compared to the massive pressure Toxic Chain provides.
