The 1,000-Step Let's Go Requirement
To evolve
Bramblin, you must utilize the Let's Go mechanic introduced in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Press the R button to send
Bramblin out of its Poké Ball and walk alongside it for exactly 1,000 steps. There is no in-game pedometer or UI element to track this progress.
Walking 1,000 steps takes approximately four to five minutes of continuous movement at the standard player running speed. Once you believe you have hit the hidden threshold, you must level up
Bramblin while it is still outside of its ball. You can trigger this level-up by winning a battle, using a Rare Candy, or feeding it EXP Candies.
If
Bramblin returns to its Poké Ball before leveling up, your step counter resets to zero. This happens if you press ZR, if you move too far away and force it to despawn, or if it faints in an auto-battle.
Optimizing Your Route and Preventing Resets
Wild Pokémon will attack your Let's Go partner if they get too close. If
Bramblin faints during an auto-battle, you lose all step progress. Do not attempt this evolution method in high-level areas like Area Zero or Casseroya Lake.
The most efficient method is to walk inside large towns with flat surfaces and zero wild spawns. Mesagoza's central plaza, Levincia's walkways, or Alfornada's gym court are optimal locations. You can run in circles or use a rubber band on your controller's analog sticks to automate the movement safely.
You can ride
Koraidon or
Miraidon while walking
Bramblin, but you must maintain the base riding speed. If you press the joystick to dash, you will outrun
Bramblin. It will fail to keep up, automatically return to its ball, and erase your 1,000-step progress.
Brambleghast Competitive Verdict: Spinblocker and Hazard Control
Brambleghast operates as a niche utility physical attacker in competitive formats. Its Grass/Ghost typing provides a crucial immunity to Normal and Fighting moves, allowing it to block opposing Rapid Spin attempts. Simultaneously, it learns Rapid Spin to clear Stealth Rock and Spikes for your own team.
Its signature ability, Wind Rider, grants an Attack boost and complete immunity when hit by wind moves like Hurricane, Icy Wind, or Tailwind. This makes
Brambleghast a direct counter to
Tornadus or
Zapdos relying on those specific attacks to deal damage or set up speed control.
With a base 115 Attack and 90 Speed, it outpaces several mid-tier threats and hits hard with Power Whip and Poltergeist. However, its base 55 HP and 70 Defense leave it highly vulnerable. It cannot survive common priority moves like Sucker Punch or Ice Shard.
Team Fit: Who Should Use Brambleghast?
Draft
Brambleghast for Hyper Offense teams that require a dedicated hazard remover that maintains offensive pressure. It pairs well with setup sweepers weak to Stealth Rock, such as
Volcarona or
Dragonite. Access to Strength Sap also allows it to cripple physical attackers while recovering its low HP pool.
Do not use
Brambleghast if you need a reliable defensive pivot. It cannot take repeated hits from U-turn or Knock Off, and its weakness to common Fire, Dark, and Flying types limits its switch-in opportunities.
- Pros: Blocks Rapid Spin, clears hazards, immune to wind moves, strong physical STAB moves.
- Cons: Terrible physical bulk, weak to common priority, requires heavy prediction to survive.
- Final Rating: 6.5/10. A highly specialized tool that excels against specific Tailwind compositions but struggles in standard bulky-offense matchups.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the step counter reset if Bramblin goes back in its ball?
Yes. If you outrun Bramblin, press ZR to recall it, or if it faints in an auto-battle, the 1,000-step progress resets to zero immediately.
Can I use a mount to walk the 1000 steps?
Yes, you can ride Koraidon or Miraidon. However, you must move at the standard walking speed. Dashing will cause Bramblin to despawn and reset your progress.
Is there a way to check my step count in-game?
No in-game UI tracks Let's Go steps. Players must estimate their progress by walking continuously for approximately four to five minutes before attempting to level up.
Does Bramblin need to hold an item to evolve?
No specific item is required. The evolution triggers strictly based on completing the 1,000 steps in Let's Go mode and securing a subsequent level up.
