How to Evolve Brionne

Brionne evolves into Primarina strictly at level 34. No evolution stones, trading, or friendship mechanics are required. You simply need to reach this level threshold through combat experience, Rare Candies, or EXP Candies.

In modern titles like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet (via The Indigo Disk DLC), feeding Brionne EXP Candies M and L from Tera Raids is the fastest route. One EXP Candy L provides 10,000 EXP, pushing a freshly hatched level 1 Popplio to Brionne, and then to Primarina in seconds. Alternatively, crafting a Normal Encounter Power Level 2 sandwich and defeating Chansey in Area Zero yields massive experience for the entire party.

For players on older hardware (Sun/Moon or Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon), chaining encounters at the Poni Wilds or running through the Elite Four with an EXP Share remains the optimal grinding path. You can cancel the evolution with the B button if you want Brionne to learn Moonblast early at level 44 instead of Primarina's level 46, though EXP Candies render this trick largely obsolete.

However, its base 74 HP and 74 Defense leave it highly vulnerable to strong physical wallbreakers. Ogerpon-Wellspring, Rillaboom, and Urshifu-Rapid-Strike can easily OHKO an uninvested Primarina. You must run it alongside dedicated physical walls or pivot it in safely using slow U-turn or Volt Switch users like Corviknight to maximize its wallbreaking phases.

Primarina's competitive viability heavily depends on optimizing its ability. Torrent boosts Water-type moves by 50% when HP falls below one-third. This pairs exceptionally well with Substitute sets, allowing Primarina to safely drop its HP to activate the boost, turning Surf or Hydro Pump into lethal late-game nukes.

The Hidden Ability, Liquid Voice, alters all sound-based moves to Water-type. This transforms Hyper Voice into a 90 Base Power Water-type STAB attack that completely bypasses Substitute. In VGC (Doubles) formats, Liquid Voice Hyper Voice hits both opponents.
