How to Evolve Budew

Step 1: From Budew to Roselia with Friendship

Evolving Budew into Roselia is a unique process that doesn't depend on reaching a specific level. Instead, it's all about building a strong bond with your Pokémon. To trigger the evolution, you need to level up Budew when its friendship value is high (at least 220 out of 255) and it must be daytime in your game.

You can increase Budew's friendship by:

  • Walking with it in your party (every 128 steps in recent games).
  • Giving it a Soothe Bell to hold, which doubles friendship gains.
  • Using it in battles (as long as it doesn't faint).
  • Using vitamins (like HP Up, Protein, etc.) and specific Berries on it.
  • In newer generations, playing with your Pokémon in camp or picnics is a great way to boost friendship quickly.

Most games have a Friendship Checker NPC who can give you a hint about how close you are. Once they give you a top-tier message, level up Budew during the day, and it will evolve into Roselia!

Step 2: From Roselia to Roserade with a Shiny Stone

Once you have a Roselia, the next step is much more straightforward. Roselia evolves into the elegant and powerful Roserade when you use a Shiny Stone on it. Unlike the first evolution, this one is not tied to level, friendship, or time of day. You can evolve your Roselia as soon as you get it, provided you have a Shiny Stone.

Shiny Stones are evolutionary items that can be found in various locations depending on your game. Look for them in places like Iron Island (Diamond/Pearl/Platinum), Route 121 (Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire), or as rewards from the Poké Pelago (Sun/Moon). Once you have one, simply select it from your bag and use it on Roselia to complete its final evolution into Roserade.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Budew evolve at a specific level?

No, Budew does not evolve at a specific level. Its evolution into Roselia is triggered by leveling up with high friendship during the in-game daytime, regardless of its actual level.

What's the fastest way to increase Budew's friendship?

The most effective method is to have Budew hold a Soothe Bell while you walk around and battle. In Sword & Shield or Scarlet & Violet, making curry or sandwiches and playing at camp/picnic is extremely fast. Avoid letting it faint, as this will decrease its friendship.

Can I stop Budew from evolving?

Yes. If you don't want your Budew to evolve when the conditions are met, you can press the B button during the evolution animation. You can also have it hold an Everstone to prevent evolution entirely.
