How to Evolve Dragonair

Dragonair evolves into Dragonite automatically upon reaching level 55. There are no evolution stones, trading mechanics, or friendship requirements in the mainline games. To speed up the process, use Rare Candies or EXP Candies obtained from raid battles, as the level 55 threshold requires massive experience points.

For in-game story progression, Dragonite is a powerhouse. Its massive attack stat and wide movepool handle late-game bosses easily. However, it lacks the speed and specific utility needed for serious competitive play.

In the urban environment of Lumiose City, standard leveling remains the rule. Since traditional wild encounters differ, maximizing experience yields requires specific activities.

1. Keep Dragonair in your active party while completing urban research tasks.
2. Feed it EXP Candies earned from trainer battles or city-based raid equivalents.
3. Trigger the evolution screen manually from the party menu once the Pokémon hits level 55.

Unlike older games, the Legends series requires you to initiate the evolution sequence yourself. Check your menu frequently once you cross the level threshold.

Paldea offers incredibly fast leveling loops to bypass the tedious grind to 55. Relying on passive party experience takes too long.

1. Travel to North Province (Area Three) near the Fairy-type Team Star base.
2. Eat a sandwich granting Encounter Power: Normal (such as a Ham Sandwich).
3. Defeat the spawning Chansey and Blissey using physical attacks.

The mobile experience completely ditches levels. You need raw resources.

1. Accumulate 100 Dratini Candies.
2. Select Dragonair from your Pokémon storage.

To farm candies efficiently, set Dratini or Dragonair as your Buddy Pokémon to earn drops while walking. Pinap Berries during Dratini encounters also double your catch candy yield.

Hitting level 55 without seeing the evolution screen is frustrating. A few common mechanics usually block the process.
