How to Evolve Crabrawler

The method to evolve Crabrawler depends entirely on the generation you are playing. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the location-based evolution mechanic was removed. You now simply use an Ice Stone on Crabrawler from your bag. This item triggers the evolution into Crabominable immediately, regardless of the Pokémon's current level.

You can find Ice Stones as sparkling ground loot scattered across Glaseado Mountain in Paldea. Alternatively, they frequently appear as bidding items at the Porto Marinada auction. Using the stone early allows you to access Crabominable's massive Attack stat during the main story campaign.

For players revisiting the Alola region in Generation 7 (Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon), Crabrawler requires a specific environmental trigger. You must level it up while physically standing in the Mount Lanakila zone. This can be done via battles or by feeding it a Rare Candy. Because Mount Lanakila is locked behind late-game progression, Alolan players are forced to keep Crabrawler unevolved for the majority of their playthrough.

To maximize Crabominable's wallbreaking potential, the Iron Fist ability is non-negotiable. Hyper Cutter prevents Attack drops from Intimidate, but Iron Fist provides a flat 20% damage multiplier to all punching moves. This turns its signature move, Ice Hammer, into a devastating nuke.

The standard moveset relies on Ice Hammer and a Fighting-type STAB. Close Combat offers raw immediate power, while Drain Punch (boosted by Iron Fist) provides crucial HP recovery to offset its poor defensive typing. Mach Punch is essential for picking off weakened, faster targets when Trick Room is not active.

Ice Hammer carries a unique mechanical advantage for this build. The move lowers the user's Speed by one stage after dealing damage. Under Trick Room conditions, lowering your Speed actually makes you move faster on subsequent turns. This allows Crabominable to underspeed other notoriously slow Pokémon like Amoonguss or Torkoal after a single attack.

Terastallization heavily patches Crabominable's defensive flaws. Tera Water is the optimal defensive choice, flipping its weaknesses to Fire and Steel into resistances while providing a neutral defensive profile against most priority moves. If you prefer a purely offensive approach, Tera Ice pushes Iron Fist-boosted Ice Hammer to damage thresholds capable of OHKOing neutral targets.

When building a team around Crabominable, priority protection is critical. Even under Trick Room, Crabominable is highly vulnerable to Scizor's Bullet Punch or Dragonite's Extreme Speed. Pairing it with Farigiraf is highly recommended. Farigiraf's Armor Tail ability blocks all opposing priority moves, ensuring Crabominable can execute its attacks safely.

You must also plan for Gholdengo. The Steel/Ghost type naturally resists Crabominable's Ice and Fighting attacks. Running Earthquake in your fourth moveslot ensures you can reliably clear Gholdengo from the field, paving the way for a late-game sweep.
