How to Evolve Exeggcute

Exeggcute evolves into Exeggutor when you use a Leaf Stone on it from your bag. There is no level requirement for this evolution. To obtain Alolan Exeggutor, you must use the Leaf Stone while physically located in the Alola region, as evolving it in other regions always yields the Kantonian form.

Unlike many Grass-type Pokémon that evolve by reaching a specific level, Exeggcute relies entirely on an evolutionary item. You must expose it to a Leaf Stone to trigger the evolution. Because this is a stone evolution, you have complete control over when it happens. You can evolve a freshly hatched Exeggcute at level 1, or wait until level 50.

However, the timing of your evolution dictates the moves your Pokémon learns naturally. Exeggutor has a very limited level-up movepool compared to Exeggcute. If you evolve it too early, you will need to rely heavily on TMs to build a usable moveset. Waiting until Exeggcute learns key moves like Extrasensory or Solar Beam can save you valuable resources during a playthrough.

The region you are standing in determines the form you receive. Using a Leaf Stone in Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Kalos, Galar, or Paldea will always result in Kantonian Exeggutor (Grass/Psychic). You can only obtain Alolan Exeggutor (Grass/Dragon) by triggering the evolution within the Alola region (Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon).

In the urban environment of Lumiose City in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Exeggcute follows its traditional evolution method. You will need a Leaf Stone to initiate the process. Since this game focuses on the Kalos region, evolving Exeggcute here will yield the standard Kantonian Exeggutor.

1. Open your satchel and navigate to your items pocket.
2. Select the Leaf Stone and choose to use it.
3. Select Exeggcute from your current party to trigger the evolution sequence.

Evolutionary stones in the Legends series are typically found in space-time distortions or purchased at specific trading posts using Merit Points (MP). Prioritize checking the central trading hub in Lumiose City if you need a Leaf Stone quickly. Do not expect to evolve Exeggcute into its Alolan form in this game unless a specific Alolan biome or unique item is introduced.

Exeggcute was reintroduced to the Generation 9 ecosystem via The Indigo Disk DLC. You can find wild Exeggcute roaming the Coastal Biome inside the Blueberry Academy Terarium. Once you catch one, the evolution process into Kantonian Exeggutor is straightforward, provided you have the right item.

1. Travel to the Paldea region and visit any Delibird Presents store in Mesagoza, Levincia, or Cascarrafa.
2. Purchase a Leaf Stone for 3,000 Pokédollars (requires having at least 3 Gym Badges).
3. Open your bag, select the Leaf Stone, and apply it to the Exeggcute in your party.

Many players attempt to evolve Exeggcute into Alolan Exeggutor while inside the Terarium's Coastal Biome, assuming the tropical environment acts as an Alolan proxy. This does not work. Using a Leaf Stone anywhere in Scarlet and Violet will only give you Kantonian Exeggutor.

To get Alolan Exeggutor in Scarlet and Violet, you must bypass the evolution process entirely. Wild Alolan Exeggutor spawn directly in the Coastal Biome. You can simply catch one in the wild, or transfer an already-evolved Alolan Exeggutor from Pokémon HOME.

In Pokémon GO, the evolutionary stones are replaced by the candy system. You do not need a Leaf Stone here. Instead, you must collect 50 Exeggcute Candy to perform the evolution. You can gather these candies by catching wild Exeggcute, transferring duplicates to Professor Willow, or walking with Exeggcute as your Buddy Pokémon.

1. Tap on the Poké Ball icon at the bottom of the screen and open your Pokémon storage.
2. Search for Exeggcute and select the one with the highest CP or best IVs.
3. Tap the Evolve button, which requires 50 Exeggcute Candy.

It is critical to note that evolving Exeggcute in Pokémon GO will strictly result in Kantonian Exeggutor. Niantic handles regional forms differently than the mainline games. Alolan Exeggutor is treated as a separate encounter entirely. You cannot evolve an Exeggcute into Alolan Exeggutor in GO; you must catch the Alolan form directly from raids, special research tasks, or specific wild encounter events.

If you are struggling to get your Exeggcute to evolve, you are likely running into one of a few common mechanical misunderstandings. The most frequent issue is relying on experience points. Exeggcute does not have an evolution level. You can grind it to level 100, and it will remain an Exeggcute unless you manually apply a Leaf Stone.

Another major point of confusion surrounds the Alolan form. If you are playing Sword, Shield, Scarlet, or Violet, and you use a Leaf Stone, you will get the Grass/Psychic Kantonian form. There is no hidden trick, special location, or specific time of day that will change this outcome in modern games. The evolution into Alolan Exeggutor is hard-coded to the Alola region games (Generation 7).

Finally, ensure you are actually using the item from the bag rather than making Exeggcute hold it. Giving the Leaf Stone to Exeggcute as a held item does nothing. You must select "Use" from the menu and apply it directly to the Pokémon.

For standard playthroughs and story modes, Kantonian Exeggutor earns a solid 6/10 rating. Its massive base 125 Special Attack allows it to hit incredibly hard, and the Chlorophyll ability doubles its abysmal base 55 Speed when the harsh sunlight weather condition is active. If you run a sun-setting team, Exeggutor functions as a potent, fast special sweeper that can clear out late-game gyms with ease.

However, Exeggutor falls apart completely in serious competitive play or difficult post-game battles. Its Grass/Psychic typing is a defensive nightmare. It carries seven distinct type weaknesses, including a devastating 4x weakness to Bug-type moves. Without sun support, it is too slow to strike first and too fragile to survive super-effective hits from faster opponents.

If you choose to use it in your story team, wait to evolve Exeggcute until it learns Giga Drain or Sleep Powder. Once evolved, rely on TMs to round out its coverage. A moveset of Giga Drain, Psychic, Sludge Bomb, and Sleep Powder maximizes its offensive pressure while providing essential crowd control against tougher boss encounters.
