How to Evolve Fletchling

Fletchling evolves into Fletchinder simply by reaching level 17 through standard battles or experience items. You do not need any special evolution stones or trading to trigger this change. Once Fletchinder reaches level 35, it will evolve again into Talonflame, completing the entire evolutionary line.

While Talonflame lacks the stats for serious competitive play in modern SV formats, catching and evolving a Fletchling is highly recommended for story playthroughs. Its early access to Flying and Fire-type moves covers major type advantages against early-game Bug and Grass types.

More importantly, acquiring its Hidden Ability, Flame Body, cuts egg-hatching time in half. This utility alone makes a fully evolved Fletchling a permanent fixture in any breeder's party.

In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, reaching the required level does not automatically force the evolution screen. You must initiate the process manually to evolve your Pokémon.

1. Keep Fletchling in your active party and gain experience through catching Pokémon or battling in Lumiose City.
2. Wait for the on-screen notification indicating Fletchling is ready to evolve at level 17.
3. Open your satchel and navigate to your party menu.
4. Select Fletchling and press the Evolve command.

This manual trigger prevents accidental evolutions while you are exploring the urban environment. It also allows you to delay the evolution if you prefer Fletchling's base design.

Paldea offers multiple ways to hit level 17 quickly. Using experience items is the fastest route if you want to skip early-game grinding.

1. Feed Fletchling EXP Candies or a Rare Candy from your bag until it hits level 17.
2. Alternatively, keep it in your party while defeating wild Pokémon or trainers to soak up passive experience via the Exp. Share.
3. Ensure the final level-up happens in a standard turn-based battle or through an item.

Fletchling can be found very early on the Poco Path. Catching one immediately gives you a head start on building a strong physical attacker for the Cortondo gym.

Niantic's mobile game ditches traditional leveling for a candy-based system. Fletchling requires a minimal investment for its first stage.

1. Collect 25 Fletchling Candies by catching, transferring, or walking with Fletchling as your buddy.
2. Open the Pokémon menu, select Fletchling, and tap the Evolve button.

You will need an additional 100 candies to reach Talonflame. Using Pinap Berries during wild encounters speeds up this grind significantly by doubling the candy yield.

Hitting level 17 doesn't always guarantee an immediate evolution. A few specific mechanics can block the process and leave you stuck.

• Auto-Battling (Let's Go Mode): In Scarlet and Violet, Pokémon will not evolve if they level up while auto-battling in the overworld. You must initiate a standard battle or use a candy to trigger the evolution screen.
• Holding an Everstone: If Fletchling is holding an Everstone, the evolution is suppressed. Remove the item from the summary screen and level it up one more time.
• Evolution Cancelled: Pressing the B button during the evolution animation stops the process. You will need to level Fletchling up again to re-trigger it.
