How to Evolve Fomantis

Fomantis evolves into Lurantis starting at level 34, provided the level-up happens during the day. Rare Candies or EXP Candies trigger the evolution instantly, as long as the time condition is met.

If Fomantis hits level 34 at night, the evolution fails. You must level it up again during the day to trigger the evolution screen. There is no penalty for missing the level 34 window, as any subsequent level gained during the day will work.

Daytime mechanics vary heavily depending on the generation you are playing. Relying on the skybox color is the safest visual indicator before burning a Rare Candy.

In Pokémon Sun and Ultra Sun, the in-game clock matches your 3DS system time. Daytime runs from 6:00 AM to 5:59 PM.

Pokémon Moon and Ultra Moon shift the clock by 12 hours. Daytime in these versions occurs from 6:00 PM to 5:59 AM real-world time. Evolving Fomantis in Moon requires playing at night or changing your console clock.

In Sword and Shield, the Wild Area follows the Switch system clock, but story progression locks the time on certain routes until you beat the Champion. Scarlet and Violet abandon the system clock entirely. Paldea operates on a 72-minute real-time cycle, with daytime lasting exactly 36 minutes. You must wait for the sun to rise in-game regardless of your Switch clock.

Lurantis earns a solid 6.5/10 for competitive play. It functions best as a Trick Room wallbreaker, compensating for its abysmal base 45 Speed.

The standard Overgrow ability leaves Lurantis outclassed by Tsareena or Meowscarada. You must hunt for its Hidden Ability, Contrary. Contrary reverses stat changes, turning moves with negative side effects into setup tools.

• Leaf Storm: Instead of dropping Special Attack by two stages, Contrary boosts it by two stages.
• Superpower: Boosts Attack and Defense by one stage instead of lowering them.

Without Trick Room support, Lurantis struggles. Its defensive typing (pure Grass) exposes it to U-turn, Flying, Fire, and Ice-type attacks before it can move.

A mixed attacking set maximizes the Contrary ability. Running Leaf Storm, Superpower, Synthesis, and Knock Off provides coverage, recovery, and utility against items like Heavy-Duty Boots.

Assault Vest or Leftovers are the preferred items. Assault Vest patches up its base 90 Special Defense, allowing it to survive hits from Gholdengo or Iron Moth. Leftovers provide passive recovery for longer, stall-oriented matches.

Lurantis pairs exceptionally well with Trick Room setters like Hatterene or Cresselia. Slowking is another excellent partner, providing slow Chilly Reception pivots to bring Lurantis onto the field safely without taking damage.

Maximizing Lurantis requires a Brave nature (+Attack, -Speed) for physical Trick Room sets. A 0 Speed IV is mandatory to ensure it moves first under Trick Room conditions.

EV spreads should prioritize bulk and offensive output. An allocation of 252 HP and 252 Attack with 4 Special Defense maximizes its physical damage while keeping it durable enough to survive neutral hits.

If running a mixed Contrary set, a Quiet nature (+Special Attack, -Speed) is optimal. Invest 252 HP and 252 Special Attack to maximize the damage output of Leaf Storm, which subsequently boosts Superpower's damage through the Contrary ability.

In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Fomantis spawns frequently in South Province (Area Five) and Tagtree Thicket. They appear at all times of the day, despite the daytime evolution requirement.

To hunt for a Contrary Fomantis, you must complete Tera Raid Battles. 3-star Fomantis raids or 4-star Lurantis raids have a 20% chance of yielding the Hidden Ability. Alternatively, use an Ability Patch.

Using a Grass Encounter Power Level 2 sandwich (lettuce, olive oil, salt) forces Fomantis spawns in South Province, making it easy to farm materials or hunt for a Shiny before evolving it during the Paldean daytime.
