Goomy evolution method
The Evolution Essentials
Evolving Goomy requires a mix of standard leveling and environmental awareness. The process involves two distinct stages that remain consistent across mainline titles.
Goomy to
Sliggoo: Reach level 40.
Sliggoo to
Goodra: Reach level 50 or higher during natural overworld rain.
The requirement for overworld rain is absolute. Relying on battle mechanics will cause the evolution to fail.
Evolving Goomy in Pokémon Legends: Z-A & Arceus
In the Legends series, evolution is triggered manually from your menu rather than happening automatically after a battle. Weather conditions apply directly to the overworld environment.
- Raise
Goomy to level 40 through battles or EXP Candies. - Open your satchel and select
Sliggoo to evolve it. - Raise
Sliggoo to level 50. - Rest at a base camp to cycle the time of day until you see rain in the overworld.
- Open your satchel while it is raining and trigger the final evolution.
Evolving Goomy in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet
Weather in the Paldea region is dynamic and cannot be manipulated by changing your console's clock. You must hunt for rain naturally in the overworld.
- Level your
Sliggoo to 49 or higher. - Travel to areas prone to rain, such as Casseroya Lake or North Province Area Two.
- Wait in the overworld until rain begins to fall.
- Feed
Sliggoo an EXP Candy or Rare Candy to trigger the level-up immediately.
Do not use the Let's Go auto-battle feature to gain this level. Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet will not evolve from auto-battle experience.
Evolving Goomy in Pokémon GO
The mobile game replaces standard leveling with Candy and specific module requirements. The weather mechanic is still present but offers a workaround.
- Feed
Goomy 25
Goomy Candy to evolve it into
Sliggoo. - Collect another 100
Goomy Candy. - Wait for the in-game weather to show as Rainy, or place a Rainy Lure Module on a nearby PokéStop.
- Select evolve from
Sliggoo's summary screen.
Troubleshooting: Why Won't Sliggoo Evolve?
Players frequently hit roadblocks when trying to get
Goodra. Here are the most common issues and how to fix them.
- Using Rain Dance: In-battle weather moves or the Drizzle ability do not count. The rain must be falling in the overworld before the battle starts.
- Let's Go Auto-Battles: As mentioned, Scarlet and Violet block evolutions from auto-battles. Use a traditional battle or a candy.
- Rain Stopping: If the overworld rain stops exactly when your battle ends, the evolution will fail. Using a Rare Candy in the rain is the safest method.
In-Game Verdict: Is Goodra Worth It?
Goodra serves as a massive Special Defense wall during story playthroughs. It easily absorbs special attacks from late-game gym leaders and Elite Four members, making it a highly reliable anchor for your main campaign team.
However, it falls short in serious competitive formats. It lacks reliable recovery moves, and its physical defense leaves it vulnerable to common physical sweepers. Keep it on your team for the story, but look toward other Dragon-types for competitive laddering.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why isn't my Sliggoo evolving in the rain?
If you used Rain Dance or have a Pokémon with Drizzle, the evolution will fail. The rain must be a natural weather condition in the overworld. Additionally, ensure you did not level up using the Let's Go auto-battle feature in Scarlet and Violet.
How do I evolve Goomy in Pokémon GO?
You need 25 Goomy Candy to get Sliggoo. To evolve Sliggoo into Goodra, you need 100 Goomy Candy and must either be in natural rainy weather or stand near a PokéStop with an active Rainy Lure Module.
Where is the best place to find rain in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?
Casseroya Lake and North Province Area Two have high chances of natural rain. Weather cycles randomly, so you may need to wait in the area for a few minutes until the weather changes.
Can I change my Switch clock to force rain?
No. Unlike Pokémon Sword and Shield, changing the Nintendo Switch system clock does not manipulate weather in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. You must wait for the dynamic weather system to cycle naturally.
