Evolving Graveler
The Essentials & In-Game Verdict
Graveler transitions into
Golem through different mechanics depending on your current generation.
- Legends Z-A &
Arceus: Use a Linking Cord. - Scarlet & Violet: Trade with another player.
- Pokémon GO: 100 Candies or Trade for 0 Candies.
In-game,
Golem operates as a strictly early-to-mid-game physical wall. Its massive Defense absorbs physical hits well during the story.
However, its dual Rock/Ground typing saddles it with crippling 4x weaknesses to Water and Grass. It holds zero viable niche in serious competitive formats.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A & Arceus: Using the Linking Cord
Pokémon Legends: Z-A retains the quality-of-life improvements from Legends:
Arceus. You bypass the trade requirement entirely using a specific consumable.
- Obtain a Linking Cord from the trading post using Merit Points.
- Open your satchel and select the Linking Cord.
- Apply the item directly to
Graveler in your party. - Watch the evolution animation trigger immediately.
You can also find Linking Cords as rare drops inside active space-time distortions. Keep
Graveler in your party while farming these zones to evolve it naturally.
Pokémon Scarlet & Violet: Traditional Trade Evolution
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet stick to the classic hardware-era requirement. You must execute a direct player-to-player exchange.
- Connect to the internet and open the Poké Portal.
- Select Link Trade and enter a link code with a trusted partner.
- Select
Graveler from your boxes and confirm the trade. - The evolution triggers on your partner's screen. Have them trade the newly evolved
Golem back to you.
Many players use the community code 0075-0075 to facilitate Graveler-for-Graveler trades. Always verify your trade partner's highlighted Pokémon before confirming to avoid losing your Pokémon.
Pokémon GO: The Trade Discount
In Pokémon GO, you have two distinct paths to obtain
Golem. The solo route requires farming 100
Geodude Candies.
The multiplayer route is much more efficient. If you receive a
Graveler in a trade from a friend, the evolution cost immediately drops to zero Candies.
Because trading rerolls IVs, it is best to trade high-CP, low-IV Gravelers with friends in hopes of landing a Lucky
Golem.
Troubleshooting: Why Won't Graveler Evolve?
Evolution failures usually stem from minor oversights during the preparation phase.
- The Everstone Block: If
Graveler holds an Everstone, the trade evolution cancels instantly. Unequip all items before initiating the Link Trade. - Pokémon GO Trade Lock: A Pokémon can only be traded once in GO. If you receive a
Graveler in a trade, you cannot trade it back to the original owner. You must evolve it yourself. - Union Circle Confusion: Standing near a friend in a Scarlet/Violet Union Circle does nothing. You must actively open the Poké Portal and complete a Link Trade.
Fix these specific blockers and your evolution will process normally.

Common Questions About Evolving Graveler
Can you evolve Graveler without trading in Scarlet and Violet?
No. You must trade Graveler with another player to trigger the evolution in Scarlet and Violet. You can catch wild Golem directly in the Terarium if you own the Indigo Disk DLC.
Where do I find a Linking Cord in Legends: Z-A?
You purchase Linking Cords using Merit Points at the trading post. They also drop randomly inside space-time distortions across the map.
Why didn't my Graveler evolve after trading?
Your Graveler was likely holding an Everstone. This item prevents all evolutions, including trade evolutions. Remove the Everstone and trade it again.
Does trading a Graveler in Pokémon GO reset its IVs?
Yes. Trading any Pokémon in GO randomly rerolls its IVs based on your friendship level with the other player. Do not trade a perfect IV Graveler expecting a perfect Golem.
