How to Evolve Grovyle

Grovyle evolves into Sceptile simply by reaching Level 36. No special items, evolution stones, or trading mechanics are required. Once it hits this level through standard battles, Exp. Candies, or Rare Candies, the evolution screen triggers automatically. Just ensure it is not holding an Everstone.

Evolving Grovyle is straightforward, relying entirely on standard leveling mechanics. Sceptile serves as an excellent story-mode sweeper, outspeeding nearly every NPC opponent you will face.

While Sceptile dominates casual playthroughs with its high Speed and Special Attack, it falls flat in serious competitive environments. It lacks the bulk to survive priority attacks and suffers from a relatively shallow offensive movepool. Treat Sceptile as a reliable story companion rather than a competitive staple.

With the return of Mega Evolution in Lumiose City, evolving Grovyle is your first step toward unlocking Mega Sceptile. The base evolution method remains tied to standard leveling.

1. Keep Grovyle in your active party while exploring Lumiose City.
2. Participate in trainer battles or capture wild Pokémon to gain experience.
3. Feed Grovyle Exp. Candies to accelerate the process if you are under-leveled.
4. Reach Level 36 to trigger the evolution sequence into Sceptile.

Once you have Sceptile, you will need to locate the Sceptilite Mega Stone to access its Dragon-type Mega Evolution during battles.

The Treecko line returns in The Indigo Disk DLC. You can find wild Grovyle wandering the Canyon Biome inside the Terarium at Blueberry Academy.

1. Catch a wild Grovyle in the Canyon Biome.
2. Farm Exp. Candy L or Exp. Candy XL by completing 5-Star Tera Raids.
3. Feed the candies to Grovyle until it reaches Level 36.
4. Allow the evolution animation to play out completely without pressing any buttons.

Wild Grovyle caught in the Terarium are often already above Level 36. In this case, leveling it up just one single time will immediately trigger the evolution into Sceptile.

The mobile game replaces standard leveling with a candy-based economy. You will need a stockpile of species-specific candy to obtain Sceptile.

1. Accumulate 100 Treecko Candies.
2. Use Pinap Berries during wild Treecko encounters to double your candy yield.
3. Set Grovyle as your Buddy Pokémon to earn passive candy while walking.
4. Open Grovyle's summary screen and tap the Evolve button.

Wait for special Hoenn-themed events or Community Day classics to farm the required candies rapidly.

Players occasionally hit roadblocks where Grovyle reaches Level 36 but remains unevolved. These issues are tied to specific game mechanics rather than glitches.

The most common culprit in Scarlet and Violet is the Let's Go auto-battle feature. Pokémon cannot evolve if their level-up occurs during an auto-battle. To fix this, simply level Grovyle up one more time using a traditional battle or a Rare Candy.

Held items can also prevent evolution. If Grovyle is holding an Everstone, the evolution sequence is hard-locked. Remove the item from Grovyle's summary screen and level it up again. Finally, pressing the 'B' button during the evolution animation cancels the process. Keep your hands off the controller once the screen flashes white.
