How to Evolve Hatenna

Hatenna evolves into Hattrem simply by reaching Level 32. To complete the final stage, Hattrem evolves into Hatterene at Level 42. No evolution stones, trading, or specific times of day are required in any mainline game. You only need standard experience points or Rare Candies.

In the urban environment of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, evolving Hatenna relies on standard experience gain within the Lumiose City redevelopment zones. Reaching Level 32 is your only hard requirement.

For the final push to Level 42, focus on higher-level wild encounters in the deeper, more dangerous sectors of Lumiose City. Using a Rare Candy at Level 41 is the most efficient way to skip the final grind and secure your Hatterene before major story climaxes.

Paldea offers the fastest methods for evolving Hatenna thanks to Tera Raid battles. You can bypass traditional grinding entirely by hoarding experience items and applying them directly from your bag.

If you prefer battling wild Pokémon, the Chansey farming method remains the most efficient route. Normal-type encounters yield massive experience points, allowing you to hit Level 32 in minutes.

1. Travel to North Province (Area Three) near the Fairy-type Team Star base.
2. Prepare a sandwich that provides Encounter Power: Normal Level 1. A simple recipe uses Chorizo, Mayonnaise, and Mustard.
3. Engage the spawned Chansey in traditional, turn-based battles to quickly push Hatenna to Level 32, and eventually Level 42.
4. Alternatively, complete 3-Star and 4-Star Tera Raids across the map to farm EXP Candy M and EXP Candy L.
5. Apply the candies directly to Hatenna from your bag until the evolution triggers.

Remember that the Let's Go feature has specific limitations. While auto-battling is great for gathering materials and clearing outbreaks, it actively prevents the evolution screen from loading. You must secure the final level-up through a real battle or an item.

The mobile experience completely removes levels, replacing them with the standard Candy system. You will need a total of 150 Hatenna Candy to reach the final stage.

Hatenna requires 50 Candy to evolve into Hattrem. Hattrem then requires an additional 100 Candy to evolve into Hatterene.
