The Evolution Method: Using a Moon Stone
To evolve
Jigglypuff into
Wigglytuff, you must use a Moon Stone on it from your bag. There is no level requirement, no friendship threshold, and no trading involved. The evolution triggers instantly upon using the item.
Because this is a stone-based evolution, you cannot cancel the process by pressing the B button. Once you confirm the use of the Moon Stone, the item is consumed and the evolution is final.
Finding a Moon Stone depends entirely on your game version. In Scarlet and Violet, you can pick them up as sparkling drops in Area Zero or purchase them at the Porto Marinada auctions. In Sword and Shield, the Digging Duo in the Wild Area provides a reliable, albeit RNG-dependent, source. Older titles usually place at least one static Moon Stone in early-game caves, such as Mt. Moon in the Kanto region.
When Should You Evolve Jigglypuff?
The optimal time to evolve
Jigglypuff depends on the generation you are playing. In older generations (Generations 1 through 7), stone evolutions typically stopped learning new moves via level-up. If you evolved
Jigglypuff at level 3, you would miss out on powerful level-up moves like Hyper Voice or Double-Edge. Players had to delay the evolution until
Jigglypuff learned its complete moveset.
Starting in Generation 8 (Sword and Shield) and continuing into Generation 9 (Scarlet and Violet), this restriction was removed. The Move Reminder mechanic now allows
Wigglytuff to remember any move from
Jigglypuff's level-up pool at any time.
If you are playing a modern title, evolve
Jigglypuff immediately. You gain the immediate stat boost of
Wigglytuff without sacrificing access to crucial utility moves like Sing or Wish.
Competitive Verdict: Is Wigglytuff Worth It?
Rating: 3.5/10.
Wigglytuff functions as a niche wallbreaker or cleric, but it is entirely outclassed by
Clefable in standard OU or VGC formats. While its base 140 HP is massive, its base 45 Defense and 50 Special Defense mean it takes heavy damage from neutral hits, negating its high health pool.
Wigglytuff's primary selling point is the Competitive ability. Switching
Wigglytuff into an
Incineroar's Intimidate, a Landorus-Therian, or an opponent's Defog triggers a +2 Special Attack boost. Combined with its Normal/Fairy typing granting a Ghost immunity, it has a highly specific anti-meta use case.
Unfortunately, a base 45 Speed stat prevents it from acting as a true sweeper, even at +2 Special Attack. It relies heavily on prediction and requires significant team support to mitigate its vulnerability to common Steel and Poison-type attacks.
Strengths, Weaknesses, and Who Should Use It
Wigglytuff is not designed for top-tier competitive play, but it holds specific value in lower-tier formats. Here is the honest breakdown of its capabilities.
- Pros: Excellent dual typing provides absolute immunities to Ghost and Dragon attacks. The Competitive ability deters stat-dropping moves. It boasts a massive special movepool, including Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Fire Blast, and Dazzling Gleam.
- Cons: Paper-thin defensive stats make it a liability against physical attackers. It lacks reliable instant recovery outside of the delayed Wish mechanic. Its low speed forces it to take a hit before attacking in almost every matchup.
Who it's for: ZU or PU tier players who specifically need a Ghost-immune Fairy type to absorb Shadow Balls. It is also a viable low-tier pick for Draft League coaches looking for a cheap cleric that provides Wish support and Stealth Rock. Standard VGC or OU players should avoid it entirely.
Evolving Jigglypuff in Pokémon GO
In Pokémon GO, the evolution mechanics strip away the need for items. Evolving
Jigglypuff requires exactly 50
Jigglypuff Candy. You do not need a Moon Stone, making it highly accessible for newer players.
Wigglytuff holds a legitimate niche in the Great League (CP 1500 cap). Armed with the fast move Charm, it acts as a bulky Fairy-type damage dealer. Its Normal sub-typing gives it a crucial resistance to Ghost-type attacks from meta staples like
Trevenant,
Sableye, and
Jellicent.
If you hatch an
Igglybuff, unlock its second Charged Attack before evolving it into
Jigglypuff. Baby Pokémon have a significantly discounted Stardust and Candy cost for unlocking second moves, saving you resources before you push it to its final
Wigglytuff form.

Frequently Asked Questions About Jigglypuff's Evolution
What level does Jigglypuff evolve?
Jigglypuff does not evolve by leveling up. It only evolves when exposed to a Moon Stone. You can trigger this evolution at level 1 or level 100.
Should I use an Eviolite on Jigglypuff instead of evolving it?
No. Even with the 50% defense boost from Eviolite, Jigglypuff's base defensive stats are too low to survive competitive hits. Evolving into Wigglytuff is always the better option.
Why did my Wigglytuff stop learning moves?
In older games (Gen 1-7), stone evolutions lose their level-up movepools. If you are playing an older title, you must wait until Jigglypuff learns all desired moves before using the Moon Stone.
Is Wigglytuff better than Clefable?
No. Clefable is vastly superior due to better defensive stats and elite abilities like Magic Guard and Unaware. Wigglytuff is only preferred if you specifically need a Ghost immunity or the Competitive ability.
