How to Evolve Kadabra

To evolve Kadabra into Alakazam, you must either trade it to another player or use a specific evolution item, depending on the game. In traditional titles like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, trading triggers the evolution immediately. In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, apply a Linking Cord directly to Kadabra.

Kadabra evolves into Alakazam, a quintessential glass cannon. It excels in single-player story campaigns where its high Special Attack and Speed allow it to sweep NPC teams before taking damage.

However, its abysmal physical defense makes it a liability for serious competitive play. Priority physical moves will easily knock it out before it can act.

The Legends series removes the mandatory multiplayer trading requirement. You can evolve Kadabra entirely on your own using a specific consumable item.

1. Obtain a Linking Cord from the in-game exchange vendor or by finding it in space-time anomalies.
2. Open your satchel and select the Linking Cord.
3. Apply the item directly to the Kadabra in your active party.
4. Confirm the prompt to watch it evolve into Alakazam.

In traditional mainline games like Scarlet and Violet, you must rely on the classic trade evolution mechanic. You need an active internet connection and ideally a trusted friend to ensure you get your Pokémon back.

There is no solo item bypass in the Paldea region.

1. Open the Poké Portal from your main menu.
2. Select Link Trade and enter a specific 8-digit Link Code with your partner.
3. Select Kadabra from your boxes and confirm the trade.
4. The evolution screen triggers automatically on the receiving player's console.
5. Initiate a second trade to receive your newly evolved Alakazam back.

Pokémon GO offers two distinct paths to obtain Alakazam. You can grind resources or use the social features to save time.

Trading is the optimal route, as it completely removes the heavy resource cost associated with the evolution.

1. Method 1: Spend 100 Abra Candy directly on the Pokémon screen.
2. Method 2: Trade Kadabra to a friend on your Friends List.
3. Once traded, the evolution cost drops to 0 Candy for the receiving player.
4. Note that stats re-roll during a trade, and traded Pokémon cannot be traded back.

Here are the most common blockers and how to fix them.

• The Everstone Block: If Kadabra holds an Everstone, the trade evolution is hard-cancelled. Remove the item and trade again.
• Pokémon GO Trade Lock: In GO, a Pokémon can only be traded once. If you receive a Kadabra, you can evolve it for free, but you cannot return it to the original sender.
• B-Button Cancelling: Unlike level-up evolutions, you cannot press the B-button to stop a trade evolution once the animation starts.
