How to Evolve Klink

Pokémon Legends: Z-A Evolution Mechanics

In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, leveling up to 38 or 49 does not automatically trigger the evolution screen. The game utilizes the manual evolution system introduced in previous Legends titles.

Once Klink reaches level 38, open your satchel and navigate to your party menu. The Poké Ball icon next to Klink will glow, indicating it is ready. Select the Pokémon and press Evolve to initiate the transformation into Klang.

To accelerate the process within Lumiose City, feed Klink Exp. Candies M or L obtained from completing urban requests or defeating powerful wild Pokémon. This bypasses the need to grind wild encounters manually.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo Disk

In Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, Klink is exclusive to The Indigo Disk DLC. You will find wild Klink roaming the Chargestone Cavern inside the Blueberry Academy Terarium.

Because wild Pokémon in the Terarium scale to the post-game, you will almost always catch Klink at level 60 or higher. The level requirements (38 and 49) are already met upon capture.

To evolve a level 60+ Klink, simply level it up exactly one time. You can do this by winning a traditional trainer battle, catching a wild Pokémon, or feeding it a single Rare Candy. After it evolves into Klang, level it up one more time to reach Klinklang.

Pokémon GO Candy Requirements

The evolution process in Pokémon GO drops the level requirements in favor of the standard Candy economy. Klink is a common feature in 10km Eggs and Tier 1 Raids.

  1. Feed Klink 25 Klink Candies to evolve it into Klang.
  2. Feed Klang 100 Klink Candies to evolve it into Klinklang.

There are no walking requirements or Unova Stones needed. Use Pinap Berries whenever you encounter Klink in raids to double your candy yield and drastically reduce the grind.

In-Game Verdict: Is Klinklang Worth Using?

Klinklang boasts excellent physical Defense and a respectable Attack stat, making it a highly capable physical sweeper for story playthroughs. Its viability hinges entirely on a single setup move: Shift Gear. This move boosts its Attack by one stage and its Speed by two stages, turning Klinklang into an immediate offensive threat against AI opponents.

Its signature attack, Gear Grind, hits twice in one turn. This allows Klinklang to break through enemy Focus Sashes and the Sturdy ability, ensuring reliable knockouts against sturdy rock types.

However, Klinklang is completely unviable in serious Smogon SV competitive play. It suffers from a devastating lack of physical coverage moves. Aside from its Steel-type STAB and Wild Charge (which causes recoil damage), it has virtually no way to handle Fire, Water, or Electric-type walls. If an opponent resists Steel, Klinklang is forced to switch out, making it too predictable for ranked ladders.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Klink need a Metal Coat to evolve?

No. Unlike Scyther or Onix, Klink does not require a Metal Coat or any other item to evolve. The entire line evolves strictly by leveling up to 38 and 49.

Why didn't Klink evolve after an auto-battle in Scarlet and Violet?

The Let's Go auto-battle feature restricts evolutions. If Klink reaches level 38 or 49 during an auto-battle, the evolution screen will not trigger. You must level it up via a normal battle or use a Rare Candy.

How many candies do I need to evolve Klink in Pokémon GO?

You need a total of 125 Klink Candies to complete the line. It costs 25 Candies to evolve Klink into Klang, and an additional 100 Candies to evolve Klang into Klinklang.

Is Klinklang good in competitive battles?

No. While Shift Gear is an incredible setup move, Klinklang suffers from a severely limited physical movepool. Its lack of coverage makes it easily walled by Fire, Water, and Electric types in serious competitive formats.
