How to Evolve Koffing

Koffing evolves into Weezing starting at level 35. In modern games like Pokémon Scarlet, Violet, and Legends: Z-A, reaching this level triggers the standard Kantonian evolution. To obtain Galarian Weezing, you must transfer Koffing and trigger the level 35 evolution specifically within Pokémon Sword or Shield.

Koffing relies on a straightforward level-based evolution, but the resulting form depends entirely on the region where the evolution takes place.

• Kantonian Weezing: Reach Level 35 in Scarlet, Violet, Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl, or Legends: Z-A.
• Galarian Weezing: Reach Level 35 specifically in Pokémon Sword or Shield.
• Pokémon GO Weezing: Consume 50 Koffing Candy.

No evolutionary stones, trading, or friendship mechanics are required. The process is strictly tied to experience points and regional coding.

In modern titles like Pokémon Scarlet, Violet, and the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Koffing defaults to its original Kantonian form. The regional Galarian evolution is disabled in these environments.

1. Place Koffing in your active party to gain passive experience through the Exp. Share mechanic.
2. Battle wild Pokémon or trainers until Koffing reaches Level 35.
3. Alternatively, feed Koffing EXP Candies or a Rare Candy from your bag to hit the level threshold instantly.
4. Allow the evolution animation to play out without pressing the B button.

If you catch a Koffing in the wild at level 35 or higher, it will evolve the very next time it levels up. Using an item like a Rare Candy on a level 50 Koffing will immediately trigger the evolution into Weezing.

Galarian Weezing cannot be obtained by evolving a Koffing in Scarlet, Violet, or Legends: Z-A. The evolution trigger for the Fairy/Poison variant is hardcoded to the Galar region.

1. Transfer your Koffing into Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield using Pokémon HOME.
2. Ensure Koffing is below level 100 so it can still level up.
3. Use a Rare Candy or participate in a battle to reach at least Level 35.

Once evolved, you can freely transfer Galarian Weezing back to modern games like Scarlet and Violet via Pokémon HOME. Attempting to breed a Galarian Weezing outside of Galar without an Everstone will result in Koffing offspring that evolve into standard Kantonian Weezing.

The mobile spin-off discards levels entirely, relying on the standard candy system. Koffing requires a moderate amount of resources to evolve.

1. Accumulate 50 Koffing Candy by catching Koffing, transferring duplicates to Professor Willow, or walking with Koffing as your Buddy.

Galarian Weezing occasionally appears in Three-Star Raids but cannot currently be obtained by evolving a standard Koffing in Pokémon GO. Save your candies for the Kantonian variant.

Equipping Koffing with an Eviolite maximizes its physical bulk, turning it into a reliable answer to Fighting-type attackers. Its ability Neutralizing Gas shuts down opponent strategies, while Levitate provides a crucial Ground immunity. A standard LC set utilizes Sludge Bomb for STAB damage, Will-O-Wisp to cripple physical threats, and Pain Split or Rest for recovery.

Koffing pairs exceptionally well with teammates like Mienfoo, Vullaby, Stunky, Mudbray, and Chinchou, who appreciate its ability to absorb physical hits and spread status conditions. You can also run situational items like an Eject Button for pivot momentum, a Choice Scarf for surprise speed, an Assault Vest for special bulk, or a Rocky Helmet to punish contact moves.
