Scorbunny Evolution Method
The Essentials & In-Game Verdict
The progression from Scorbunny to
Cinderace is a traditional level-based track. You rely entirely on accumulating experience points through battles, catching mechanics, or consumable items.
- Target Stage 1:
Raboot (Level 16) - Target Stage 2:
Cinderace (Level 35) - Required Items: None (Standard leveling)
For standard story playthroughs,
Cinderace acts as an exceptional fast physical sweeper. Its signature move, Pyro Ball, delivers massive base power with high accuracy, making it a reliable breaker against gym leaders. The hidden ability Libero changes its type to match the move it uses, granting Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB) on coverage moves like High Jump Kick or U-turn.
Despite this excellent in-game utility,
Cinderace falls off completely in serious competitive formats. It lacks the defensive bulk to survive priority attacks in the current meta. Furthermore, its damage output struggles to break through dedicated physical walls without heavy setup, leaving it outclassed by modern offensive threats.
Evolving Scorbunny in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the core leveling thresholds remain level 16 and level 35. However, the Legends gameplay loop alters how you actually trigger the transformation within Lumiose City.
- Keep
Scorbunny in your active party while exploring the urban sectors. - Engage in wild encounters, catch other Pokémon, or defeat trainers to accumulate experience points naturally.
- Feed Exp. Candies obtained from local missions or space-time anomalies to bypass manual grinding.
- Once
Scorbunny crosses the level 16 threshold, open your satchel or party menu. - Select the flashing Poké Ball icon next to
Scorbunny and manually confirm the evolution to obtain
Raboot.
Unlike traditional mainline games, the evolution screen does not force itself upon you after a battle. You retain complete control over when the animation plays. Repeat this exact manual confirmation process when
Raboot reaches level 35 to secure
Cinderace.
Evolving Scorbunny in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet
In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet,
Scorbunny is natively available via The Indigo Disk DLC. You must first spend 3,000 BP at the League Club Room to boost biodiversity in the Canyon Biome. Once unlocked, wild
Scorbunny spawn at high levels, changing the immediate evolution process.
- Catch a wild
Scorbunny in the Canyon Biome. These specimens typically spawn between level 60 and 65. - Because the Pokémon is already vastly past the level 16 threshold, you only need to level it up once.
- Use a Rare Candy or an Exp. Candy M from your bag to grant the necessary experience instantly.
- After the screen transitions and you obtain
Raboot, apply one more candy to level it up again. - This second level-up immediately triggers the level 35 condition, evolving
Raboot into
Cinderace.
If you prefer battling over candies, challenge the
Chansey and
Blissey spawns in Area Zero or the Terarium. Fighting them yields massive experience yields, easily pushing a freshly caught
Scorbunny through both evolutionary stages in two quick battles.
Evolving Scorbunny in Pokémon GO
The mobile title strips away levels entirely, replacing the progression with a strict candy economy. Evolving the entire line requires targeted catching and resource management.
- Accumulate 25
Scorbunny Candy to evolve
Scorbunny into
Raboot. - Gather an additional 100
Scorbunny Candy to evolve
Raboot into
Cinderace.
To accelerate this process, use Pinap Berries or Silver Pinap Berries during every wild
Scorbunny encounter to double the candy yield. You can also assign
Scorbunny as your Buddy Pokémon; it will generate one candy for every 3 kilometers you walk. Participating in specific Fire-type events or community days remains the most efficient way to farm the required 125 total candies.
Troubleshooting: Why Scorbunny Won't Evolve
Players frequently encounter scenarios where
Scorbunny surpasses level 16 or
Raboot clears level 35 without evolving. These mechanical blocks are built into the game logic and require specific fixes.
- The Let's Go Auto-Battle Block: In Scarlet and Violet, sending your Pokémon out with the R-button to auto-battle prevents evolution. Even if
Scorbunny gains enough experience to reach level 16 during an auto-battle, the trigger is suppressed. You must initiate a standard turn-based battle or use an item for the final level-up. - The Everstone Trap: Check your Pokémon's held items. If
Scorbunny is holding an Everstone, the game hard-codes the evolution sequence to fail. Remove the item from the summary screen and level up the Pokémon one more time. - Accidental B-Button Cancels: Pressing the B button during the evolution animation instantly aborts the process. If you accidentally cancel the sequence, you cannot simply reopen the menu. You must earn enough experience to level up the Pokémon again to re-trigger the prompt.
Scorbunny belongs to the Medium Slow experience group, requiring 1,059,860 EXP to reach level 100. If you are breeding level 1
Scorbunny via the Picnic mechanic, the initial grind to level 35 takes significantly longer than leveling a DLC-caught specimen.

Common Questions About Scorbunny Evolution
Why didn't my Scorbunny evolve at level 16 in Scarlet and Violet?
If you leveled up using the Let's Go auto-battle feature, the evolution trigger is suppressed. You must level up Scorbunny through a traditional turn-based battle or by feeding it an Exp. Candy or Rare Candy to see the evolution screen.
How do you evolve a level 60 Scorbunny caught in the Terarium?
Catching a Scorbunny above its evolution thresholds means it only needs one level up per stage. Feed it one Rare Candy to evolve it into Raboot at level 61, then feed Raboot another Rare Candy to evolve it into Cinderace at level 62.
How does Scorbunny evolve in Pokémon Legends: Z-A?
Scorbunny requires standard experience points to reach levels 16 and 35. However, in the Legends format, you must manually initiate the evolution from your party menu or satchel once the Pokémon's icon flashes, rather than waiting for an automatic post-battle screen.
Can Scorbunny evolve without trading?
Yes. The entire Scorbunny evolutionary line relies strictly on leveling. You do not need to trade Raboot, nor do you need to expose it to a Fire Stone or any other evolutionary item to obtain Cinderace.
