The Agile Style Evolution Trigger
To evolve Stantler into
Wyrdeer, you must execute exactly 20 Agile Style uses of the move Psyshield Bash. This mechanic is entirely exclusive to Pokémon Legends:
Arceus. No level threshold forces the evolution; the trigger is strictly tied to move execution data stored on the Pokémon.
Stantler learns Psyshield Bash natively at Level 21. However, merely knowing the move is insufficient. The Pokémon must master the move to unlock the Agile and Strong Style toggles.
Stantler automatically masters Psyshield Bash at Level 31.
If you want to evolve it earlier, you can give a Seed of Mastery to Zisu at the Jubilife Village Training Grounds. This allows a Level 21
Stantler to master the move immediately. Using an Agile Style move consumes 2 PP instead of the standard 1 PP, meaning Psyshield Bash's base 10 PP only yields 5 Agile Style uses before requiring a heal.
Farming the Evolution Fast in Hisui
Grinding 20 Agile Style uses requires a specific loop to minimize time spent. The most efficient location is Aspiration Hill in the Obsidian Fieldlands. The wild
Bidoof and
Starly here are between levels 2 and 4, posing zero threat to a Level 21+
Stantler.
Engage a low-level wild Pokémon and use Agile Style Psyshield Bash. Even if the attack misses, the game still registers the Agile Style usage toward the 20-count requirement. Once your PP is depleted after 5 uses, fast-travel back to the Fieldlands Camp.
Rest in the tent to instantly restore your Pokémon's PP. Repeat this process four times. Once the 20th Agile Style Psyshield Bash is executed, the Poké Ball icon next to
Stantler's name in your party menu will flash yellow, indicating it is ready to evolve.
The Scarlet & Violet Transfer Trap
Players attempting to evolve
Stantler natively in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will hit a mechanical wall. Even if
Stantler uses Psyshield Bash 20 times in Paldea, the evolution will not trigger. The Agile Style mechanic does not exist in the Generation 9 engine, making the evolution impossible outside of Hisui.
To bypass this, you must use Pokémon HOME. Catch your
Stantler in Scarlet, Violet, or Brilliant Diamond, and move it into a basic HOME box. Boot up Pokémon Legends:
Arceus and transfer the
Stantler into a Pasture.
Once in Hisui, you must manually equip Psyshield Bash via the menu, as transferred Pokémon often have their movesets reset. Complete the 20 Agile Style uses, trigger the evolution into
Wyrdeer, and transfer it back to Pokémon HOME. When returned to Scarlet or Violet, it will retain its original game origin mark while keeping its new
Wyrdeer form.
Competitive Verdict: Wyrdeer's Meta Role
As an unofficial fan-site, Pokedex.me rates
Wyrdeer a 6.5/10 in the competitive landscape. It functions primarily as a bulky Trick Room setter and offensive pivot in lower singles tiers (PU/NU) and specific VGC restricted formats. Its Normal/Psychic typing grants a critical immunity to Ghost-type attacks, though it remains vulnerable to common Dark and Bug-type moves.
Wyrdeer's primary selling point is the Intimidate ability. Dropping the opponent's Attack stat upon entry artificially inflates
Wyrdeer's physical bulk, guaranteeing it survives most physical hits to set up Trick Room. Sap Sipper is a secondary option to block Spore from
Amoonguss, but Intimidate provides far more consistent team support.
- Pros: Intimidate support, Ghost immunity, high base HP and Attack, reliable Trick Room setter.
- Cons: Lacks reliable recovery, severely outclassed by
Farigiraf in VGC, weak to Knock Off and U-turn.
In VGC Regulation F and G,
Wyrdeer struggles to justify a team slot over
Farigiraf.
Farigiraf's Armor Tail ability blocks priority moves like Fake Out, Grassy Glide, and Sucker Punch, ensuring Trick Room goes up safely.
Wyrdeer cannot block priority, making its Trick Room setup much riskier against hyper-offense teams.
Optimal Builds and Movesets
For competitive play,
Wyrdeer requires maximum investment in bulk to guarantee its support role. The optimal EV spread is 252 HP / 252 Defense / 4 Special Defense with a Relaxed nature (+Def, -Speed). A 0 Speed IV is mandatory to minimize its Speed stat under Trick Room.
The standard moveset includes Trick Room, Psyshield Bash, Hyper Voice, and Protect. Psyshield Bash provides STAB damage while boosting Defense by one stage, synergizing perfectly with Intimidate to make
Wyrdeer an unbreakable physical wall after one turn. Hyper Voice offers consistent spread damage in doubles formats.
For items, the Sitrus Berry provides immediate burst healing to offset its lack of recovery moves. Alternatively, the Mental Herb is an excellent tech choice to block Taunt from fast support Pokémon like
Tornadus or
Whimsicott, ensuring Trick Room is set successfully.
Pokémon GO and Spin-off Status
In Pokémon GO, the evolution mechanic for
Stantler is currently disabled. Players cannot evolve a standard
Stantler into
Wyrdeer, regardless of how much
Stantler Candy they hoard. Niantic treats
Wyrdeer as a separate entity rather than an evolution.
Wyrdeer was introduced to Pokémon GO exclusively through specific Raid Day events. To obtain one, players must defeat it in 3-star raids during these limited windows. Transferring a
Wyrdeer from Pokémon GO to Pokémon HOME is currently the only way to get a GO-stamped
Wyrdeer into the mainline games.

Frequently Asked Questions About Stantler's Evolution
Can Stantler evolve in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?
No. Even if Stantler uses Psyshield Bash 20 times in Scarlet and Violet, the evolution will not trigger because the Agile Style mechanic does not exist in Paldea. You must transfer it to Legends: Arceus via Pokémon HOME.
At what level does Stantler learn Psyshield Bash?
Stantler learns Psyshield Bash at level 21. It automatically masters the move at level 31, allowing you to use Agile Style. You can also give Zisu a Seed of Mastery at level 21 to unlock Agile Style early.
How many PP does Agile Style Psyshield Bash consume?
Using a move in Agile Style consumes 2 PP instead of 1. Since Psyshield Bash has 10 base PP, you will need to heal at a base camp multiple times to reach the required 20 Agile Style uses.
Can I evolve a Stantler caught in Pokémon GO into Wyrdeer?
Currently, Stantler cannot evolve into Wyrdeer in Pokémon GO. Wyrdeer is only obtainable through specific Raid Day events, meaning your Stantler candy cannot be used for this evolution.
