How to Evolve Woobat

To evolve Woobat into Swoobat, you must raise its Friendship level to a high threshold (160 points in modern games, 220 in older generations) and then level it up once. You do not need an evolution stone. In Pokémon GO, you must walk 1km with Woobat as your buddy and use 50 Woobat Candies.

Evolving Woobat relies entirely on the hidden Friendship mechanic. Unlike traditional level-based evolutions, you must actively build a bond with the Pokémon before a standard level-up triggers the evolution screen.

You need to reach a specific hidden value. In older generations, this cap was a demanding 220 points. Modern titles have lowered this threshold to a much more manageable 160 points.

However, Swoobat is an exceptional in-game story sweeper. Its hidden ability, Simple, doubles all stat changes. Using Calm Mind once grants +2 Special Attack and +2 Special Defense. Combine this with the move Stored Power, and Swoobat can single-handedly dismantle NPC teams and Gym Leaders during a standard playthrough.

In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, friendship mechanics integrate directly with your exploration of Lumiose City. Building friendship requires keeping Woobat active outside of its Poké Ball.

The fastest method involves utilizing the game's resource gathering system. Sending Woobat to collect materials yields small but consistent friendship bumps.

1. Catch a Woobat and immediately place it in your active party.
2. Locate the Soothe Bell (typically found via early-game side quests or vendors in the central hub) and give it to Woobat to hold.
3. Target trees, crates, or mineral deposits and throw Woobat's Poké Ball to gather resources. Each successful gather action increases friendship.
4. Use Woobat in wild battles around the urban sectors, ensuring it lands the finishing blow for bonus experience and friendship.
5. Trigger a level-up via battle or by feeding it an Exp. Candy once you suspect the friendship is high enough.

Do not let Woobat faint against Alpha or boss Pokémon in the city sectors. A faint will deduct a significant chunk of your hard-earned friendship points, setting your evolution back.

While Woobat is not native to the Paldea region, players transferring it via Pokémon HOME must use Gen 9's specific friendship mechanics. The Picnic system replaces older methods like Pokémon Camp.

Auto-battling via the Let's Go feature does not yield any friendship points. You must use traditional methods to raise its hidden stat.

6. Alternatively, feed it EV-reducing berries (like the Qualot Berry or Tamato Berry). These berries lower base stats but grant massive friendship spikes.
7. Use a Rare Candy or battle a wild Pokémon to level it up.

You can check your progress by visiting the Friendship Checker NPC in Cascarrafa. If she says, "You're good friends, all right!" you are ready to level up.

Woobat is natively available early in the Galar region, specifically within the Galar Mine. Evolving it quickly gives you a massive advantage for the early Gyms.

The Pokémon Camp feature is your primary tool here. Spending ten minutes interacting with Woobat is usually enough to max out the required friendship.

1. Catch Woobat in the Galar Mine and keep it in your party.
2. Travel to Hammerlocke and speak to the NPC in the house right of the Pokémon Center to receive the Soothe Bell. Equip it immediately.
3. Open Pokémon Camp.
4. Call Woobat over and play with the Feather Wand until it shows a musical note or heart icon above its head.
5. Cook a batch of Curry. Achieving a "Milcery Class" or higher rating provides a massive burst of friendship to your entire party.
6. Exit the camp and level Woobat up in the Wild Area.

If you see Woobat bouncing happily when you speak to it in Camp, it has crossed the 160-point threshold. A single battle or Exp. Candy will trigger the evolution into Swoobat.

Pokémon GO completely ditches the hidden stat system. Evolving Woobat here requires a direct, visible task tied to the game's Buddy mechanic.

You cannot simply stockpile candies to force the evolution. The walking requirement is mandatory for every single Woobat you wish to evolve.

1. Open your trainer profile and set Woobat as your active Buddy Pokémon.
2. Walk exactly 1 kilometer in the real world while the app is tracking your distance (Adventure Sync works for this).
3. Accumulate 50 Woobat Candies. You can speed this up by using Pinap Berries when catching wild Woobats or by transferring duplicates to Professor Willow.
4. Once the 1km requirement is checked off on Woobat's summary screen, the "Evolve" button will turn pink and become clickable.

If you swap Woobat out as your buddy before completing the 1km walk, the distance progress is saved. You will not lose your walking progress if you switch to a different buddy temporarily.

Many players hit the required level or spend hours battling, only to find Woobat refusing to evolve. This usually comes down to hidden mechanics penalizing your progress.

The most common mistake is relying on Herbal Medicine. Items like the Energy Root, Heal Powder, and Revival Herb are cheap, but they taste bitter. Using them deducts up to 15 friendship points per use. Never use these items on a Woobat you want to evolve.

Fainting is another major setback. Every time Woobat's HP drops to zero in a battle, it loses 1 point of friendship. If you are using Woobat in tough boss battles and it constantly faints, you are actively undoing your progress.

Trading resets friendship completely. If a friend trades you a Woobat that had maximum friendship on their save file, it arrives in your game with its friendship reset to the base value (usually 70). You must start the bonding process from scratch.

Finally, remember that hitting the friendship threshold does nothing on its own. The evolution is only triggered at the exact moment of a level-up. If you max out friendship at level 100, you must use a Rare Candy to force the evolution, as it can no longer gain experience from battles.
