How to Evolve Cubchoo

Cubchoo evolves into Beartic by reaching Level 37. No evolutionary stones, specific times of day, or trading mechanics are required. Once Cubchoo hits Level 37 through battle experience, catching wild Pokémon, or consuming Exp. Candies, the evolution sequence will trigger automatically.

Evolving Cubchoo gives you access to Beartic, a pure Ice-type physical attacker. Beartic hits incredibly hard thanks to its naturally high Attack stat. It easily punches holes through standard storyline trainers.

However, Beartic suffers from abysmal Speed and poor defensive typing. Pure Ice offers no resistances other than Ice itself, leaving Beartic vulnerable to common Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel attacks. In standard playthroughs, it often takes heavy damage before it can execute a move.

To make Beartic viable, you must build around its abilities. Slush Rush doubles its Speed in Snow, turning it into a potent sweeper. In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the evolution threshold remains firmly at Level 37. Urban exploration and completing research tasks provide steady streams of experience points. Keep Cubchoo in your active party while exploring Lumiose City to passively build its level.

For the fastest evolution route, follow these steps:

1. Complete side quests and trainer battles to stockpile Exp. Candies.
2. Feed the candies directly to Cubchoo from your satchel to quickly bypass the fragile early levels.
3. Once Cubchoo reaches Level 36, use a Rare Candy or engage in one final wild Pokémon battle.
4. Confirm the evolution prompt on the post-battle screen.

If you cancel the evolution by pressing the B button, you can trigger it again at any point from the party menu, bypassing the need to level up a second time.

Paldea offers several fast-track methods to reach Level 37. You can catch wild Cubchoo primarily in the Glaseado Mountain region, where they often spawn around Level 25 to 30. This drastically reduces the grinding required to reach the evolution threshold.
