How to Evolve Oddish

Oddish evolves into Gloom by reaching level 21. From Gloom, the evolution splits. Use a Leaf Stone on Gloom to evolve it into Vileplume. Alternatively, use a Sun Stone on Gloom to evolve it into Bellossom. Neither path requires trading or specific time-of-day conditions.

Evolving Oddish requires a two-step process involving both level progression and evolutionary items. The evolutionary line forces a permanent choice once you reach the middle stage.

• Stage 1: Oddish evolves into Gloom at level 21.
• Stage 2 (Path A): Gloom evolves into Vileplume when exposed to a Leaf Stone.
• Stage 2 (Path B): Gloom evolves into Bellossom when exposed to a Sun Stone.

You cannot reverse this choice. If you want both final forms for your Pokédex, you must catch and evolve two separate Oddish.

Neither Vileplume nor Bellossom holds viability in serious competitive formats due to poor base Speed and common weaknesses. However, for a standard story playthrough, they offer distinct utility.

Vileplume (Rating: 6.5/10) stands out as the superior choice for most regional campaigns. The Grass/Poison dual typing gives it a crucial resistance to Fighting and Fairy attacks. Access to Sludge Bomb provides reliable STAB damage, while its Poison typing automatically clears Toxic Spikes from your side of the field when it switches in. Its high Special Attack allows it to hit hard, though you will almost always take a hit first.

Bellossom (Rating: 4/10) loses the Poison typing upon evolving, becoming a pure Grass-type. This limits its offensive coverage and exposes it to more neutral damage. While Bellossom gains access to the setup move Quiver Dance, its low base Speed means it often requires multiple boosts to sweep effectively. In fast-paced story battles, spending two turns setting up a Bellossom is rarely optimal compared to simply attacking with a faster Pokémon.

In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, evolution mechanics follow the streamlined approach established in previous Legends titles. You do not need to visit a specific NPC to trigger the evolution once the conditions are met.

1. Keep Oddish in your active party and gain experience through battling or catching Pokémon in the Lumiose City sectors until it reaches level 21.
2. Open your satchel and manually select the glowing Poké Ball icon next to Oddish to trigger the evolution into Gloom.
3. Acquire a Leaf Stone or Sun Stone. These are typically purchased at the city's Trading Post using Merit Points (MP) or found inside space-time distortions.
4. Select the stone from your satchel and apply it directly to Gloom to finalize the evolution into Vileplume or Bellossom.

Evolution stones are consumed immediately upon use. Ensure you select the correct stone before confirming the action.

Oddish is available in the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Teal Mask DLC. You can find wild Oddish early in the Kitakami region, specifically around Apple Hills.

1. Catch an Oddish and raise it to level 21 using Rare Candies, EXP Candies, or traditional trainer battles to evolve it into Gloom.
2. To get Vileplume, purchase a Leaf Stone for 3,000 Pokédollars at any Delibird Presents store in Mesagoza, Levincia, or Cascarrafa. You must have at least three Gym Badges for the stones to appear in the shop inventory.
3. To get Bellossom, obtain a Sun Stone. Unlike Leaf Stones, Sun Stones cannot be bought. You must find them as sparkling drops in the West Province (Area One) or earn them by completing the Sunflora Hide-and-Seek mini-game in Artazon.
4. Open your bag, navigate to the Other Items pocket, and use the chosen stone on Gloom.

Using the Let's Go auto-battle feature to reach level 21 will prevent Oddish from evolving. You must level up via a traditional battle or an item.

In Pokémon GO, the split evolution relies heavily on gathering Oddish Candy. Oddish is a common spawn in grassy biomes and during cloudy weather.

1. Collect 25 Oddish Candy to evolve Oddish into Gloom.
2. To evolve Gloom into Vileplume, accumulate an additional 100 Oddish Candy and press the evolve button.
3. To evolve Gloom into Bellossom, you need 100 Oddish Candy plus one Sun Stone.

Sun Stones are rare evolution items. You can obtain them by spinning PokéStops, opening Gifts from friends, or completing your 7-day PokéStop spin streak, which guarantees a random evolution item.

If your Oddish or Gloom refuses to evolve, you are likely encountering one of three common mechanical blocks.

• The Let's Go Auto-Battle Block: In Scarlet and Violet, Pokémon do not trigger evolution screens if they level up while outside their Poké Ball using the Let's Go feature. Send Oddish back to its ball and level it up once more in a manual battle or with a candy.
• The Everstone Trap: Check Gloom's held item. If it is holding an Everstone, it will ignore evolution stones entirely. Remove the item and try applying the Leaf or Sun Stone again.
• Stone Application Error: You cannot use a Leaf Stone or Sun Stone directly on Oddish. The item will show as "Incompatible." You must reach the middle stage (Gloom) first before the stones will work.

Fainting during the battle where Oddish hits level 21 will not prevent evolution, provided it gained the necessary experience before going down.
