How to Evolve Sinistea

To evolve Sinistea into Polteageist, you must use a specific evolution item directly from your bag. Leveling up or trading does not trigger the evolution.

The required item depends entirely on the Pokémon's hidden form. A Phony Form Sinistea requires a Cracked Pot. An Antique Form Sinistea requires a Chipped Pot.

Attempting to use the wrong pot will result in an "It won't have any effect" message. This hard-coded item lock is actually the most reliable way to check which form you caught without examining the character model.

Its ability Weak Armor synergizes perfectly with this strategy. Taking a physical hit drops Defense but raises Speed by two stages. This massive stat boost feeds directly into Stored Power, a move that gains 20 base power for every positive stat change.

After a single Shell Smash and a Weak Armor trigger, Stored Power hits 140 base power. Combined with Shadow Ball for Ghost-type STAB and Giga Drain for coverage, Polteageist can sweep entire teams that lack a dedicated special wall or priority attacker.

Despite its sweeping potential, Polteageist is extremely fragile. It demands heavy team support to function. You must pair it with a dual screens setter like Grimmsnarl or Aurora Veil Alolan Ninetales to ensure it survives the turn it uses Shell Smash.

Dark-type priority moves completely shut down this Pokémon. Sucker Punch users like Kingambit or Chien-Pao will OHKO Polteageist before it can launch an attack, regardless of its Speed boosts. To counter this, run Indeedee-F to set Psychic Terrain, which blocks all priority moves.
